All Told, Not A Bad Week

How so, you might ask?  Well, count 'em.

(1)   The GOP lost both houses of Congress.

(2)   Rummy resigned.

(3)   Mr Bush found himself  a lame duck.

(4)   The Neocons found themselves discredited;--discredited big time.

The reasons the GOP lost are few and easy to understand.  Incompetence abroad, coupled with corruption and incompetence at home. That the war in Iraq is a disaster is a given.  As is the fact that the president seems to have spent the last three years or so telling himself, despite all evidence to the contrary,  things were going well there.     The incompetence shown during the Katrina disaster with its terrible images  still  resonates with some voters.  Of course the shenanigans of people like Rep. Mark Foley and Jack Abramoff  didn't help the GOP much either.  Nor did the alliance of some elements of the GOP congress with elements of the religious right, AKA the 'social conservatives'.

Among other things, voters not only remember Katrina but  also remember the GOP's clearly unconstitutional attempt to intervene in a state conservatorship proceeding in the Terri Schiavo tragedy.  Most Americans don't want the federal government in their sick rooms and they surely don't want people like Tom Delay standing around when final decisions of life and death must be made by surviving family members.

It's interesting to read and watch the various right-wing pundits and talk-show hosts try to assess  blame for the debacle.  How come the GOP lost? Well, according to most right-wing blabbermouths and scribblers, the GOP lost because it wasn't conservative enough.

Right.  Not conservative enough....

Never mind the fact that most elections are won  at the center and that the most voters are moderates  not interested in radicalism of any sort.  Never mind the fact that most Americans are not ideologues.

But no, the GOP lost because it wasn't 'conservative' enough.

Lord ,it makes you wonder what part of Altair IV these right-wing media types live on.  They sure don't live on planet Earth.

What fools these Fox News types are!
