Hit Iran. Hard!
Just exactly how long does the US have to wait until the president exercises some nerve and hits back at Iran for what it is doing to US troops stationed in Iraq? Till hell freezes over? What's the delay? Seems like every day you read accounts of specially designed IEDs being set off against US vehicles and foot patrols. These weapons are being made in Iran specifically for the purpose of destroying whatever superiority the US has in vehicles and equipment over the insurgents.
And it's not only been armor piercing bombs the Iranians have been delivering to Iraq. A lot more is going on. US commanders believe that Iran not only supplies bombs to insurgents, it trains them as well. Of course Tehran denies it; the Iranian authorities will deny anything and everything.
Most US commanders believe that Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard is providing weapons and training to the insurgents in Iraq. Which means that the Revolutionary Guard and its military assets and leadership should be considered as possible targets for a surgical strike.
It's true that talks with Iran are upcoming, but when dealing with the Iranians, high explosive ordnance works much better than words.
Iran is training and equipping proxies to kill and injure American soldiers. It's that simple. It simply ignores US protests and ships more and more bombs and guns into Iraq.
This pattern of behavior is totally unacceptable and has to be stopped.
And the best way to stop this sort of thing is to hit the Iranian regime where it will hurt them the most. Bombing Revolutionary Guard facilities would be a step in the right direction.
Bombing Iran would at least tend to concentrate the minds of the Iranian leadership; and perhaps make it amenable to negotiation.
On way or the other Iran must stop sending arms and equipment and training to the insurgents who are killing and maiming US troops.
Over 3500 KIA now, with thousands more wounded. How long will it be before Iran pays for its activities in Iraq?
